Charge d’Affaires Mr. Wang Sheng Attends the China-Zambia Economic and Trade Exchanges Contract Signing Ceremony

On February 23, 2024,Mr. Wang Sheng, Charge d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Zambia, attended the China-Zambia Economic and Trade Exchanges Contract Signing Ceremony between the Chenzhou Economic and Trade delegation led by Mayor Kan Baoyong and relevant Zambian authorities and companies. Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet Mr. Siazongo David Siakalenge, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Trade and Industry Mr. John Mulongoti and others were present.

Charge d'Affaires Wang said that the volume of bilateral trade between Zambia and China has repeatedly broken records, with the scale of investment continuously expanding in recent years. Today's signing ceremony is not just a strategic choice for companies from both countries to share resources and complement each other’s strengths, but also an important part of the China-Zambia Year of Business Cooperation, which reflects China's efficient and pragmatic attitude in implementing the consensus reached by the two heads of state, and lays a solid foundation for further strengthening China-Zambia economic and trade relations.

Mr. Siakalenge thanked China for its important contributions to Zambia's development. The year 2024 marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Zambia and China, and would also serve as a paramount year for economic and trade cooperation. The two countries will further consolidate economic and trade relations on the basis of mutual benefit and win-win results. On behalf of the Zambian government, Mr. Siakalenge has reaffirmed the commitment to the One-China principle.

Mayor Kan made a presentation on the overview of the Chenzhou city. A series of contracts were signed on site by companies from both countries, with a total amount of US$58.6 million.
